Servant of Two Masters
by Carlo Goldoni
Directed by: Francine Roussel
December 3 - 6, 2015
Baker Theatre
The traditional characters of the zany Commedia dell'Arte theatrical style are brought to vibrant, irreverent life in Carlo Goldoni's 18th century tour-de-force "Servant of Two Masters" - a madcap tale of crazy stratagems, mistaken identity, and true love.
The scheming servant Arlecchino comes up with a plan to sate his legendary appetites: he will serve two masters at the same time, and thus receive twice the money and twice the meals. But serving more than one master could land him in deep trouble, so Arlecchino must hide his double life! Mirth and merriment ensue against a Venetian backdrop of romance and deception in this charming tale, performed in the Commedia style that gave rise to modern slapstick and sketch comedy.
