Studio art students at Muhlenberg enjoy ample opportunities for experiential learning both on and beyond campus. Studio courses include drawing, painting, printmaking, digital and darkroom photography, digital media and sculpture. You’ll enjoy daily access to all studio facilities so you never have to put your creativity on pause. All studio art majors participate in the Senior Seminar, in which you’ll work independently with support from faculty and visiting artists. Qualifying students are invited to extend their project into a yearlong visual thesis culminating in a group exhibition.

Muhlenberg’s Martin Art Gallery hosts national and international exhibitions, including artists Veit Stratmann, Lisa A. Turngren and Edward Burtynsky as well as faculty and student shows. The gallery is home to the renowned Tonner Collection, which includes masterpieces from the Renaissance to contemporary times. Students work closely with faculty and staff to create dynamic exhibitions throughout the year.

Off campus, you can take advantage of internship opportunities at local museums and galleries. The unique LVAIC consortium enables you to register for additional art courses at nearby institutions, where you can explore everything from metalsmithing to architectural design. Or go even further afield and study abroad for a few weeks or an entire semester, exposing yourself to new sources of inspiration and creativity.
