So you are thinking about styuding economics at Muhlenberg ....
The Economics program at Muhlenberg College challenges students to think critically and analytically about problems that society, specific groups or countries, institutions, and individuals face. Students are challenged in the classroom as they learn to apply standard economic theories and models and to effectively communicate their analysis and findings. The curriculum gives students flexibility in selecting electives so that they can study fields that match their specific interests.
Students have multiple opportunities to work one-on-one with accomplished and dedicated faculty. The research interests of our faculty are broad. Their current research includes using economic experiments to examine negotiation tactics, analyzing differences in the monetary structures of Central Banks, examining how foreign investment can affect economic development and reduce inequality, and measuring the impact race has on labor market outcomes.
Students have worked directly with faculty on collaborative research projects, honors projects, and independent studies. Sometimes these projects result in publications in academic journals or presentations at conferences. You can learn more about these research projects and other experiences by clicking here.
The Economics program and College are committed to building a strong network between current students and alumni. Alumni often return to campus to speak about the strength of the job market, their career experiences after Muhlenberg, and to offer advice on how to prepare for interviews and to navigate different career paths. Some of these speaking events are co-sponsored with Muhlenberg’s Career Center, which does an exceptional job at offering career guidance and connecting students to alumni mentors.
The Economics program honors the outstanding academic accomplishments of economics majors/minors by inducting them into the Alpha Eta chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon – a national economics honors society.
