A “social event” is defined as any gathering where alcohol is present, hosted by a student and/or a student group, with an expected or possible attendance of more than 25 people. All social events must be registered. Alcohol may only be served to guests who are 21 years of age or older. To host a social event, at least one full-time resident of the hosting location must be 21 or older, and one of the full-time residents must agree to take on the responsibilities of being the social host and for ensuring compliance with the Policy during the registered social event.
The regulations contained in this Policy apply to all students and/or student groups and remain in effect throughout the calendar year. Any violations of this Policy will result in disciplinary action in accordance with Muhlenberg College’s Student Code of Conduct.
- Only the following residential areas are eligible for hosting a social event. Please note that throughout this Policy, these areas will be referred to as “eligible social host spaces.”
- Village Apartments
- 2201 Chew Street Apartments
- MILE Neighborhood houses and apartments
- Fraternity & Sorority Houses
- Fraternity and sorority houses must abide by their respective housing agreement.
*Please note that common areas and hallways are not able to be registered and/or used for hosting social events.
- Social events must be registered no later than noon on the day of the event.
- If the residents of an eligible social host space are all 21 years old or older, alcohol can be stored and consumed by those of age in the eligible social host space.
- If the residents of an eligible social host space include both those who are 21 years old or older and those who are not, alcohol can only be consumed by those who are 21 years old or older. Alcohol must be stored on the side of the room(s) occupied by students who are 21 years old or older.
- The Student Alcohol Policy must be adhered to for all social events.

2 Social events are not permitted the weekend preceding finals week, during finals week, and/or during break periods when the College is closed.
