Center for Ethics Screens “Too Big to Fail”
The HBO docudrama “Too Big to Fail” will be screened as a part of this semester’s Center for Ethics series Market\Values on Thursday, September 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Trumbower Hall, Room 130.Monday, October 1, 2012 09:58 AM
This event is free and open to the public. “Too Big to Fail” chronicles the 2008 financial meltdown and focuses on the actions of Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson to contain the crisis between late-March and mid-October of that year. Paulson, played by William Hurt, finds himself entangled in a struggle with Wall Street and Washington, and viewers get an intimate look at how powerful men and women decided the fate of the world’s economy in a matter of weeks. The film, directed by Curtis Hansen, is based on the nonfiction bestseller “Too Big to Fail” by Andrew Ross Sorkin. It was nominated for 11 Emmys, including the Best Made for Television Movie of 2011. In addition to William Hurt, the film also stars Edward Asner, Billy Crudup, Paul Giamatti, Topher Grace, Matthew Modine, Cynthia Nixon, Michael O’Keefe, Bill Pullman, Tony Shalhoub and James Wood.
Market Values is co-directed by Sue Curry Jansen, professor of media and communications, Mohsin Hashim, associate professor of political science, and Marcia Morgan, assistant professor of philosophy. The goal of the Center for Ethics’ programming is to engage the community in intensive and reflective thinking about individual and collective values.
