Senior Foreign Service Officer to Speak about Careers

Muhlenberg College will host a talk by Thomas Hart Armbruster, Senior Foreign Service Officer and Diplomat in Residence at the City College of New York on Thursday, December 1 at 12:30 p.m. in Seegers Union rooms 108-110.

Armbruster will discuss U.S. Department of State and Foreign Service careers. The presentation is titled, “Represent America to the World.”

Armbruster has worked for the U.S. Department of State for 22 years.  His latest post was as the Consul General in Vladivostok, Russia, where his duties included organizing numerous U.S. Navy and Coast Guard port visits, visiting American prisoners and handling visas and exchanges.  Armbruster’s foreign service highlights include leading a counternarcotics delegation to Kabul and serving as lead negotiator for a treaty with Russia regarding emergency response.  As a Diplomat in Residence, Armbruster is responsible for providing guidance and advice to students, professionals and the community about Department careers. 

Prior to working for the Department of State, he worked as a broadcast journalist for six years, including a position as a News Reporter for KGMB-TV Honolulu.  Armbruster holds masters degrees from the Naval War College in Newport, RI, in international security and St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, TX, in international relations and conflict resolution.  He holds a B.A. from McDaniel College in Westminster in political science.
