Alvin H. Butz, Inc., Muhlenberg College and Bruner/Cott and Associates, Inc. receive Construction Management Association of America National Project A

Alvin H. Butz, Inc., Muhlenberg College and Bruner/Cott and Associates, Inc. received the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) National Project Achievement award.

The award was won in the Buildings, Renovation/Modernization project with a Constructed Value Greater than $15 million category for the renovation and additions to the Seegers Union during the CMAA’s National Conference and Trade Show Recognition Dinner at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC on November 8, 2011. Alvin H. Butz, Inc. served as the Construction Manager of the project which was designed by Bruner/Cott and Associates, Inc.

Muhlenberg College’s Seegers Union project consisted of renovations to approximately 66,000 SF and a new addition of 30,000 SF to the sixties-era Center to enhance and expand the student dining and life experience. Construction began in June 2009 and was completed in August 2010.

This project helps to fulfill the College’s Strategic Plan to “ensure that Muhlenberg has the financial capacity, technological infrastructure, and facilities to achieve all its strategic objectives while assuring the availability of adequate resources for our successors; maintain the campus as a beautiful and efficient venue for pursuit of our mission.”
Seegers Union was originally dedicated on February 8, 1963, and was designed to accommodate 1,200 students.  After the expansion and renovation, Seegers Union is once again a state of the art facility that maintaining a comfortable environment.  Seegers Union serves as a welcoming gathering place for students, faculty, staff, parents, alumni and friends of Muhlenberg College.

Alvin H. Butz, Inc. has won four Mid-Atlantic Chapter Project Achievement Awards (Sands Casino Resort |Bethlehem, Coca-Cola Park, Lehigh Valley International Airport) and four National Project Achievement Awards including the Mid-Atlantic Chapter Project of the Year Award in the Higher Education Project under $20 Million category for Seegers Union in June, (Lehigh University – Zoellner Arts Center, Lehigh University - Campus Square, Lehigh Valley Hospital - Fred J. Jaindl Family Pavilion) in the last 14 years.  Butz is the only construction management firm headquartered in the Lehigh Valley region to win a CMAA National or Mid-Atlantic Chapter Award. Alvin H. Butz, Inc.’s sister company, Alexander Building Construction Co., also won a 2011 CMAA Project Achievement Mid-Atlantic Chapter’s Project of the Year in the Private Sector Projects over $20 million category for the overbuild addition to the East Wing of Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College, Pa.
