Steven Goodman to be First Digital Media Artist in Residence at 'Berg
Muhlenberg College welcomes Steven Goodman, the founding and executive director of the Educational Video Center in New York City, April 5-9 as the College’s first Digital Media Artist in Residence.Wednesday, March 31, 2010 00:23 PM
He is the author of Teaching Youth Media: A Critical Guide to Literacy, Video Production & Social Change, published by Columbia Teachers College Press.
Media Artist Residency at Muhlenberg College is a new program initiated by Dr. Lora Taub-Pervizpour, associate professor of media and communication, and it is made possible through the Rita and Joseph Scheller Endowed Chair. During his residence, Goodman will visit several classes, interact with young filmmakers from the Healthy Youth Peer Education (HYPE) program, host a screening of the HYPE film "Roots of Change" and give the keynote address for the Social Research Social Justice conference.
A screening of “Roots of Change” will be Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m., in the Baker Center for the Arts. The 20-minute film was researched, filmed, and produced by the teens in HYPE, and it represents Allentown through their eyes. This event, co-sponsored by the RJ Fellows Program and the department of media and communication,is free and open to the public. A reception will follow.
Goodman’s plenary lecture for the Social Research Social Justice conference, Beyond Voice: Youth Media, Critical Inquiry and Social Change, will be delivered on Thursday, April 8, at 7:00 p.m. in Miller Forum. Moyer Hall. This talk is also free and open to the public.
