The 'Pump Boys' are good natured gas station attendants with abundant musical talents and down home charm - and this is their exuberant tribute to life by the roadside, friendship and home cooking! On one side of Highway 57 somewhere between Frog Level and Smyrna, North Carolina is a gas station run by four happy-go-lucky guys who provide service with a smile. They join forces with the two Cupp sisters who own the diner across the road where fun is always on the menu. The result is a high-spirited American musical with a blend of country, bluegrass and gospel. The show feeds off the energy and pleasure of its audience as it celebrates life and love in a small, southern town. The ensemble cast of musicians/actors includes Musical Director Vince DiMura, Equity artists Eric Scott Anthony and CoCo Sansoni; Muhlenberg College alum Bruno Wu '07 and rising senior Brittany Beatty '08; and James Mohamdeim and Tynan Hooker-Haring.
Directing PUMP BOYS & DINETTES is Jason Edwards, who began his association with the show in 1985 in Allentown at the Pennsylvania Stage Company in a production directed by co-writers Debra Monk and John Foley. He has since then directed and played "Jim" in over 32 productions of the show throughout the United States and premiered the title role of Jim's Garage, the sequel to PUMP BOYS, at Flatrock Playhouse in North Carolina. Jason hails from North Carolina and has deeply-rooted appreciation for the unflappable wit and inexhaustible charm of his native family. As a teenager, he pumped many a tank full of gas in Hendersonville and witnessed the original style of Jim Wann's music in concerts there. The authentic love of home and this approach to "musician's theatre" draws a special group of talented performers to Pump Boys and Dinettes, wherever it is performed.
