Muhlenberg College To Hold Screening Of Movement (R)Evolution Africa
On Thursday, September 27, the Muhlenberg College Center for Ethics will show the film Movement (R)evolution Africa at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall, Center for the Arts.Wednesday, September 19, 2007 01:59 PM
This screening is part of the semester-long series, Globalization From Above and Below. Dance professors Charles O. Anderson and Sarah Carlson will lead a post-film discussion. The event, planned by the Muhlenberg Dance Association, is free and open to the public.
In Movement (R)evolution Africa, eight African choreographers tell stories of an emergent art form and their diverse and deeply contemporary expressions of self. Stunning choreography and riveting critiques challenge stale stereotypes of “traditional Africa” to unveil soul-shaking responses to the beauty and tragedy of 21st century Africa.
rtists featured include: Company Kongo Ba Téria (Burkina Faso), Company Rary (Madagascar), Sello Pesa (South Africa), Company TchéTché (Côte d'Ivoire), Company Raiz di Polon (Cape Verde), Company Jant Bi (Senegal) and Kota Yamazaki (Japan), Nora Chipaumire (Zimbabwe), Jawole Willa Jo Zollar (USA), Faustin Linyekula (Democratic Republic of Congo).
