Muhlenberg College Hosts Ten Thousand Villages Trade Fair

Muhlenberg College will once again host the annual Ten Thousand Villages Fair Trade Festival Sale on November 28 and 29, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in Seegers Union, in rooms 108-110.

 Wednesday, November 21, 2007 01:59 PM

Students in the Marketing in Not-For-Profit Organizations classes, taught by Professor Gail Eisenberg, coordinated the planning and execution of the event.

Ten Thousand Villages is a non-profit organization that provides vital, fair income to third world artisans by providing markets in North America through which these artisans can sell their handmade, quality products.

At Ten Thousand Villages, fair trade means a fair price.  The artisans set the price for all of their products, covering labor, materials and a livelihood with dignity.  However, fair trade means much more than providing artisans with a reasonable wage for their labor.  Working with unemployed or underemployed artisans, Ten Thousand Villages helps them bring their crafts and cultures to North America, and to support themselves and their families.

The Ten Thousand Villages Fair Trade Festival will offer a unique, global marketplace of fair trade merchandise right here in the local Allentown community for two days.  The festival will showcase authentic, charming gifts and home décor handcrafted by skilled artisans in more than 30 countries around the world. There will be merchandise ranging from folk art to ceramics, textiles and baskets for the home.  In addition customers can find jewelry, scarves, other garments and musical instruments.  All merchandise will make for excellent holiday gifts for any friend or family member.
