‘Berg Hosts Documentary Photo Exhibit, Welcomes Photographer To Campus
Beginning January 17, and running through February 16, Muhlenberg College will exhibit “Where We Live,” a collection of photographs by youth displaced by Hurricane Katrina and relocated to FEMA's Airport Village in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.Wednesday, January 10, 2007 01:59 PM
The photographs will be exhibited in Seegers Union.
In connection with the project, Kids With Cameras (www.kids-with-cameras.org), founded by Zana Briski (the director of the film, Born into Brothels), photographer Pamela Connolly traveled to Baton Rouge to conduct a photography workshop with the youth, exploring their new home and the conditions that brought them there.
Connolly will open the exhibit with a talk on January 17, at 7 p.m., in the Great Room in Seegers Union. A reception will follow.
Both the talk and the exhibit are free and open to the public.
The exhibition was brought to Muhlenberg by Kate Ranieri and Lora Taub-Pervizpour, who teach courses in Documentary Research in the Department of Media & Communication. The exhibit is supported by generous contributions from the College’s Center for Ethics, Office of the Dean of Students, Office of the Dean for Academic Life, Office of Multicultural Life, the Lectures and Forums Committee, and the departments of Art and Media & Communication.
