Talk By Rabbi David Saperstein
Rabbi David Saperstein will speak as part of Muhlenberg College’s Freedom Matters series on September 27 at 7p.m. in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall. The event is free and open to the public.Thursday, September 21, 2006 01:59 PM
Saperstein is an influential member of both the religious and political communities. Through his position as Director of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, he is able to represent to Congress the principles held by the Reform Jewish Movement. Currently he co-chairs the Coalition to Preserve Religious Liberty, and in 1999, he was elected as the first Chair of the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom created by Congress. Saperstein also teaches two seminars at Georgetown University Law School: First Amendment Church-State Law and Jewish Law. Saperstein has been highlighted on television news and talk shows including Nightline, Oprah, Lehrer News Hour and ABC’s Sunday Morning, and he has written articles for The Washington Post, The New York Times and The Harvard Law Review. His latest book is Jewish Dimensions of Social Justice: Tough Moral Choices of Our Time.
Saperstein’s talk will bring up issues regarding religious freedom as it pertains to current law and politics.
Freedom Matters is a year long series of programs, sponsored by the Muhlenberg College Center for Ethics, about the history, limits, and controversial components of freedom.
