Robert Walch: Natural Mosaics At The Martin Art Gallery March 15 – April 22, 2006

The Martin Art Gallery at Muhlenberg College proudly hosts Robert Walch: Natural Mosaics, March 15 through April 22, 2006.

 Tuesday, February 14, 2006 01:59 PM

The exhibition, curated by Kathryn Burke, Interim Gallery Coordinator, is a forum for Walch to share his creative process—a progression of images that represent the evolution of a visual theme, from his initial inspiration to the present. Using an electronic flash to simulate direct sunlight, he lighted areas of dense shadow and stopped the motion of flowing water. The cleanly-lighted frozen moments of nature offer viewers a chance to see what is not possible by casual observation—an unexpected and dramatic world of glistening, jewel-toned, amorphous tesserae.

Walch received a BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology where he studied with Minor White whom he credits with introducing an awareness of the mystical qualities of creative photography. His work is in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. A reception and gallery talk will be held Wednesday, March 15, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. in the Martin Art Gallery, Baker Center for the Arts. The event is open to the public and free of charge.

Gallery hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon – 9:00 p.m. and closed during semester breaks.

For information, contact Kathryn Burke in the Martin Art Gallery office at 484.664.3467, Mondays through Fridays.
