Martin Art Gallery Presents Larry Fink: Somewhere There’s Music November 21 – December 16, 2006
The Martin Art Gallery at Muhlenberg College proudly hosts Larry Fink: Somewhere There’s Music, November 21 – December 16, 2006.Wednesday, November 15, 2006 01:59 PM
Larry Fink’s personal overview of American musicians and vocalists — particularly those in the thoroughly American genre of jazz—is presented with nearly two dozen dynamic black-and-white photographs and oversize inkjet prints.
Fink has crafted, during a span of five decades, a compelling series of musical imagery using electronic flash, high-contrast printing, a well-trained eye, and honed instincts. The results are pictures rich in social context and texture that reflect the quintessential photographic moment, fleeting and personal, but undeniably public. His photographs also capture the breadth of music makers, from street musicians and young men practicing towards fame to icons Sarah Vaughn, Eartha Kitt, and John Coltrane.
A reception and gallery talk with the artist will be held Wednesday, November 29, 4:30 – 6:00 p.m. in the Martin Art Gallery. The event is open to the public and free of charge.
The Gallery is located in the Baker Center for the Arts. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon – 9:00 p.m. The Gallery will close Nov. 22 at 5:00 p.m. for the Thanksgiving recess. It will reopen Tuesday, Nov. 28 at noon. For information contact the Martin Art Gallery office, 484.664.3467.
