The Allentown Economic Development Corporation and the Wescoe School at Muhlenberg College have formed a new corporate partnership that will blend the educational benefits of the academic institution with the business experience and ties of the city’s agent for business incubation and entrepreneurial assistance.Tuesday, December 12, 2006 01:59 PM
“This program will give Muhlenberg students access to direct business contact, resources and aid for start-up proposals while connecting AEDC with the brightest and most ambitious new business people in the market,” said Mayor Ed Pawlowski. “It truly offers the best to both partners.”
The alliance means the Wescoe School will offer training and educational modules at the Bridgeworks Enterprise Center and on the Muhlenberg campus in Allentown, giving students and budding entrepreneurs access to the resources of the academic institution and the business support and development program.
Muhlenberg conducted a needs assessment based on interviews with tenants at the Bridgeworks incubator and agreed to develop courses aimed at small business development, said Lewis Edwards, director of enterprise development for AEDC.
“Muhlenberg College remains committed to making Allentown and the Lehigh Valley a better place to live and work. We look forward to this exciting new project,” said Dr. Marjorie Haas, provost of Muhlenberg College. “This is one of hundreds of partnerships we have in the region, and another example of the work that our faculty, staff and students are doing to improve our wonderful community.”
Edwards praised Muhlenberg’s willingness to work with AEDC, saying the alliance will expand opportunities for both partners.
