Muhlenberg Announces New Trustees
Two new members have been named to the Board of Trustees at Muhlenberg College. Dr. Cecilia A. Conrad, of Claremont, Calif., was elected to the Muhlenberg College Board of Trustees at its winter meeting in January, and attended her first meeting as a member April 21-22. Two new members have been named to the Board of Trustees at Muhlenberg College. Dr. Cecilia A. Conrad, of Claremont, Calif., was elected to the Muhlenberg College Board of Trustees at its winter meeting in January, and attended her first meeting as a member April 21-22. Jeffrey Porphy ’89 was elected at last week’s meeting.
Conrad is the Stedman-Sumner Professor of Economics and Associate Dean at Pomona College in Claremont. She was named California Professor of the Year in 2002 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and Council for Advancement and Support of Education. Also in 2002, Pomona College honored her with the Wig Distinguished Professorship Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Conrad received her master’s and doctorate in economics from Stanford University and her bachelor's degree from Wellesley College.
Currently, she is director of the American Economics Association’s pipeline project to increase the number of minority doctorate holders in economics and an associate editor of Feminist Economics. She is a former president of the National Economic Association and a former board member of the Committee on the Status of Women in the Economics Profession.
Jeffrey R. Porphy, of Harrison, N.Y., is a managing director with Credit Suisse First Boston in New York City. He is also the head of the Middle Market M&A Business. He is a guest lecturer at the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania. He teaches six classes per year to first year MBA students on Ethics and Investment Banking.
Porphy, who graduated from Muhlenberg College with a degree in business information, has remained active with the College. He currently serves as the chair of the Henry Melchior Muhlenberg Society, has participated in career development programs and served as a reunion chair. Porphy was elected as associate trustee of the College in 2001.
