Throughout February and March, Muhlenberg College’s Office of Multicultural Life presents a series of events entitled, Celebrating Black African Heritage. Through interactive programming, presentations, and classroom activity, the Office of Multicultural Life invites the community to get involved during Black History Month. The Cintron Brothers
Tuesday, February 8
Recital Hall, Center for the Arts, 7:30 p.m.
Edgardo and Noel will present a recital of Afro Cuban Rumba music at. Joining the Cintron Brothers will be critically acclaimed bass player and member of the College’s music department, Charles Fambrough.
The Muhlenberg Dancers
Thursday, February 10 and Friday, February 11 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, February 12 at 2 p.m.
Empie Theatre, Center for the Arts
Faculty member Charles Anderson, in conjunction with his Philadelphia-based dance theatre x company, has choreographed a piece that provides the dancers with an opportunity to engage in a meaningful, creative and directed discourse on cultural diversity. Three Worlds of Music: Jazz, Classic, Indian

Recital Hall, Center for the Arts, 7:30 p.m.
Badal Roy, the first Indian Tabla player to play with Western instruments in jazz, will perform the concert, at 7:30 p.m. in the Featured are faculty members Charles Fambrough on the bass and Douglas Ovens on marimba.
Salvation: Restoring the Black Male/Female Relationship

Joyce Shabazz, Director of International Black African Heritage Constituency Caucus, will lead this workshop. Her appearance is co-sponsored by the Black Students Association. Registration is required. Please call 484-664-3228 for more information.
Voices from the Nuyorican Poets Café
Tuesday, March 1
Miller Forum, Moyer Hall, 7p.m.
This performance includes readings from avante-garde poet Miguel Algarin, a leading figure of the Nuyorican movement of the 1970s; Ebony Washington, winner of the Aretha Franklin/Nikki Giovanni Poetry Competition; and Mariposa, who has been featured on HBO’s “Russel Simmons Def Poetry.” This event is co-sponsored by the Department of English, the Lectures and Forums Committee, Comunidad Latina and the Black Students Association.
Faith Ringgold: A View From the Studio

Allentown Art Museum, 6-8 p.m.
Students will journey to the Allentown Art Museum to attend a preview party forFaith Ringgold: A View From the Studio, an exhibit which opens on Sunday, March 6. The event is open to the public, but reservations must be made with the Allentown Art Museum at 610-432-4333.
In addition to the events listed above, Muhlenberg Students will have the opportunity to take part in other related events that are not open to the public.
On February 18 at 6 p.m., a minority networking reception will be held at Moravian College for students, faculty and administrators at LVAIC schools.
Coach Ken Carter, on whom the hit movie “Coach Carter” was based, will speak at Muhlenberg College on Monday, February 21 at 7 p.m. in Empie Theatre, Center for the Arts. This event is co-sponsored by the Student Activities Office, the Student Leadership Development and Greek Affairs Office and the Office of Admission.
Poet Miguel Algarin will hold a master poetry class at 1:30 p.m. and a class “Inside the Writers Studio,” at 3:30 p.m., both in the conference room of the Haas College Center.
On March 2, students will be transported to the 19 th Street Theatre for a 7 p.m. public viewing of “Hotel Rwanda.” The Office of Multicultural Life will provide ticket vouchers at $2 to interested students.
