Yundi Li Opens 20th Anniversary Piano Series At Muhlenberg College

A Golden Year of piano recitals at Muhlenberg College will kick off Friday, September 19, with a concert by Yundi Li at 8 p.m. Tickets are $20 general admission, $14 for senior citizens and $5 for students, available through the Muhlenberg College music department, 484-664-3363.
Li, a highly-acclaimed 21-year-old pianist from the People’s Republic of China, has gained international recognition for his sensational performances in numerous competitions. A Gold Medal winner of the 2000 International Chopin Competition in Warsaw, he was the first to be awarded the top prize in 15 years. He couples dazzling virtuosic technique and complete understanding of musical styles with his own personal expressiveness n traversing the range of nuances in Chopin’s music. His abilities are not limited to Chopin but extend to other composers, particularly Franz Liszt. This year, his recording of works by Chopin was released by Deutsche Grammaphone, with whom he has an exclusive contract.
Li’s recital will include four scherzos by Chopin and Liszt’s Sonata in B minor.
The Gala 20th Anniversary Season of the Muhlenberg College Piano Series will continue Friday, November 7, with a recital by Olga Kern. Simone Pedroni and Richard Raymond will perform in March and April 2004, respectively. For tickets or more information, call 484-664-3363.
