"Save our Land, Save our Towns," a PBS documentary that examines the causes, effects and remedies of suburban sprawl, will be shown at Muhlenberg College, Thursday, November 13, 7:30 p.m., in the Recital Hall, Center for the Arts. A discussion with the film's director, Dirk Eitzen, will follow. This program is free and open to the public.
"Save our Land" has been broadcast by more than 100 PBS stations nationwide. Under the title "Saving Pennsylvania," it aired on all seven Pennsylvania public television stations during the summer of 2000. The video is hosted by Tom Hylton, author of the book "Save our Land, Save our Towns." The video deals with the issues of American towns being rebuilt and its countryside preserved from strip malls and subdivisions, issues similar to those discussed in the book. Eitzen is an associate professor at Franklin & Marshall College. His directing credits include "The Amish and Us."
This event is sponsored by the communication department and the lectures and forums committee. It follows an October appearance by Tom Hylton, who spoke on land use, as part of the Muhlenberg College Center for Ethics fall series "Sustainable Communities: Balancing Economy, Ecology, and Justice."
