Muhlenberg To Host Lehigh Valley Intercollegiate Wind Ensemble

Muhlenberg College will host the Lehigh Valley Intercollegiate Wind Ensemble for a performance, Sunday, January 19, 3 p.m., in the Empie Theatre, Baker Center for the Arts. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Intercollegiate Wind Ensemble is made up of 40 of the finest musicians from Kutztown and Lehigh Universities and Moravian and Muhlenberg Colleges. James Steffy, interim president of Muhlenberg College, will serve as guest conductor, directing “Festive Overture” by Shostakovich. Before coming to Muhlenberg in 1985, Steffy served in many capacities, including music department chair and conductor of the university band, at Susquehanna University.
The program will feature “The Bells of the Brides” by local composer Larry Lipkis, conducted by James Barnes of Moravian College; “Loch Ness, a Scottish Fantasy,” conducted by Lehigh’s David Diggs; “Danceries” by Kenneth Hesketh, directed by Kutztown’s Willis Rapp; and “Mannin Veen” by Hayden Wood, conducted by host director Albert J. Neumeyer of Muhlenberg College.
