A Golden Year of Muhlenberg College's piano series will continue Friday, November 7, 2003, with a concert by Olga Kern at 8 p.m. in the Paul C. Empie Theatre, Baker Center for the Arts. Tickets are $20 general admission, $14 for senior citizens and $5 for students, available through the Muhlenberg College music department, 484-664-3363.
In 2001 Olga Kern was awarded a Gold Medal in the 11th Van Cliburn International Competition; she was the first woman in more than 30 years to achieve this distinction. A laureate of 11 international competitions, she has toured widely in her native Russia, Europe, the United States, Japan, South Africa and South Korea. Critics have acclaimed her technical virtuosity and charisma. She has captivated fans with her passionately confident musicianship and vivid stage presence. Kern was featured in "Playing on the Edge," a documentary about the 11th Van Cliburn Competition, which aired on PBS. At Muhlenberg, she will play pieces by Bach, Rachmaninoff, Brahms and Liszt.
The Gala 20th Anniversary Season of the Muhlenberg College Piano Series will continue Friday, March 5, 2004, with a recital by Simone Pedroni. Richard Raymond will perform in April 2004. For tickets, or more information, call 484-664-3363.
