In 2000, Magic Magazine named Max Maven one of "the 100 most influential magicians of the 20th century." He has received World Magic Awards for "Best Mentalist" and "Interactive Magic." He has performed his highly acclaimed form of participatory theater in over two dozen countries and has appeared on hundreds of television and radio programs, top talk shows and variety specials. He has published over 1700 creations in the conjuring literature and has consulted with David Copperfield, Siegfried & Roy, Doug Henning, Penn & Teller and Lance Burton, among other prominent magicians.

Max Maven's performance is part of a semester-long series titled "The Theory and Art of Magic: Series II" at Muhlenberg. The program brings renowned, award-winning magicians to the College to perform magic of high artistry and to give philosophical talks on the nature of magic as a human experience and as a performing art. In 1999, the College presented the first highly successful series of "The Theory and Art of Magic" to sold-out audiences.

On Thursday, September 5, Max will present a lecture-demonstration titled "The Dark Ride: Exploring the Aesthetics of Mystery" at 7:30 p.m. in the Recital Hall. Tickets for this event are also available through the box office.

Future performers include Marc DeSouza, René Lavand, Robert E. Neale, Eugene Burger, Jeff McBride and Abbi Spinner. For more information about the series, visit www.muhlenberg.edu/cultural/magic.
