Neale will present "Will Wonders Ever Cease," Wednesday, November 6, 7:30 p.m., Recital Hall, Baker Center for the Arts. Tickets are free, but reservations are required; call 484-664-3333. Robert E. Neale taught for twenty-four years as Professor of Psychiatry and Religion at Union Theological Seminary in New York. He is the author of two scholarly books, "In Praise of Play" and "The Art of Dying." Since then, he has become a distinguished writer and creator of magic whose performance ideas and novel illusions have been used worldwide. His books on magic include "Tricks of the Imagination," "Folding Money Fooling" and his most recent book, with David Parr, "Magic Mirror." This work identifies magic in theatrical, historical, and social contexts, and in turn creates a method for classifying magic effects by their psychological roots. This book also explores how magic can be comic, serious, thrilling, playful, and inspiring.
Neale previously joined the College in the fall of 1999 during the Theory of Art and Magic Series I, presenting three scholarly talks focusing on the nature of illusion. This time his two-part series will center upon the nature of wonder. Future performers will be Eugene Burger and Jeff McBride.
