The Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College will offer free courses to members of the Allentown Fire Department (AFD). The scholarship program, announced jointly by Dr. James Brennan, dean of the Wescoe School, and Craig Long, assistant fire chief for the city of Allentown, will begin next semester.

According to the agreement, three AFD firefighters will be able to enroll in one free course each per semester. The courses may be audited or taken for credit. The scholarship recipients will be nominated by the fire chief and will be subject to regular admission requirements.

For more than a year, the Wescoe School (formerly known as the Muhlenberg Evening College) has offered similar scholarships to members of the Allentown Police Department.

"The College is interested in contributing to the quality of life in our community," says Brennan. "Our civil servants do a terrific job and this is one way of honoring their outstanding service."

The Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College offers accelerated degree programs in business administration, human resource management and information systems in Allentown and Easton, as well as a traditional liberal arts program and summer study. The Wescoe School is named for Clark Wescoe '41, MD, one of the College's most distinguished graduates.
