Lori Verderame, director of Muhlenberg College's Martin Art Gallery, has been appointed to serve as the project art historian for the National Irish Monument. This national landmark, located at a new park on Penns Landing on the Delaware River in Philadelphia, Pa., recognizes the Irish immigrant experience and the 150th anniversary of the Irish Famine. As part of the Irish Memorial Committee, Verderame helped raise the $3 million necessary to produce the monument by sculptor Glenna Goodacre, which is 15 feet high and 25 feet wide.

Verderame's book, "Seymour Lipton: An American Sculptor," has been nominated for the Charles Eldredge Prize from the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. This prize honors new book-length works that offer important new scholarship in the field of American art history.
