Magic Series Finale At Muhlenberg College

Muhlenberg College will present the final major stage performance in The Theory and Art of Magic Fall 2002 series, Wednesday, November 20, 8 p.m., Empie Theatre, Baker Center for the Arts.

“McBride Magic – The Secret Art” stars Jeff McBride, co-stars Eugene Burger and features Abbi Spinner in a collaboration of some of the “most influential conjurors of the 20th century,” according to Magic Magazine. Jeff McBride, a leading innovator in contemporary magic, uses a combination of mask, myth, drama and illusion. Recently voted Critics’ Choice as Best Magician in Las Vegas in the Review-Journal, and Magician of the Year by the Academy of Magical Arts, McBride has performed on three continents, starred on television shows such as “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” and is a renowned lecturer and workshop leader on magic. He currently headlines at Caesars Magical Empire in Las Vegas.

While at Muhlenberg, McBride will also offer a lecture titled “The Art of Magic: Awakening the Magician Within,” Thursday, November 21, 7:30 p.m., in the Recital Hall, as well as a workshop for magicians.

Eugene Burger, recognized for his mastery of close-up magic, is the author of fifteen best-selling books, has starred in eight instructional videos and has lectured in over a dozen countries. Burger’s thorough comprehension of the psychology and philosophy behind the magic he performs has earned him countless accolades, including “Close-up Magician of the Year” by the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood in both 1998 and 1999. His performances at the College are much anticipated after his well-received act in the Fall 1999 series. On Thursday, November 14, Burger will present “The Secret of Magic: A Lecture-Demonstration” at 7:30 p.m. in Miller Forum, Moyer Hall.

Abbi Spinner, who has been the lead assistant and live music director for Jeff McBride for the past five years, has been studying, teaching and performing percussion, hand-drumming, dance and magic for the last twelve years. She is the lead singer in a band called Zingaia in Las Vegas, and she has taught classes and facilitated community drum circles throughout the United States, Europe and the Caribbean.
