Réne Lavand, coming to us from Tandil, Argentina, is known as one of the greatest living artists to perform magic with playing cards. Due to a car accident as a young boy and loss of use of his right hand, Lavand has created his card magic from scratch, having to re-define highly sophisticated sleight of hand technique for performance with one hand. He has received innumerable awards for his magic, and been the featured performer at every major national and international magic convention. His work has landed him appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show, the Johnny Carson Show and World's Greatest Magic. Finally, Lavand's techniques and performances have been the subject of his many books and videotapes for magicians, including Magic From the Soul (1993) and The Mysteries of My Life (1998).
Still to come in The Theory and Art of Magic: Series II are performers Robert E. Neale, Jeff McBride, Eugene Burger, and Abbi Spinner. For more information, visit www.muhlenberg.edu/cultural/magic.
