MUHLENBERG'S TEACHER PREPARATION PROGRAM RANKS IN STATE'S TOP QUARTILE

According to the Educational Testing Service, students who completed Muhlenberg College's teacher preparation program in 2000 passed the state licensing exams at a rate of 95 percent. The statewide pass rate was 86 percent, with a total of 84 colleges and universities ranked. Only nine other schools registered a pass rate of 95 percent or better.

According to the Educational Testing Service, students who completed Muhlenberg College's teacher preparation program in 2000 passed the state licensing exams at a rate of 95 percent. The statewide pass rate was 86 percent, with a total of 84 colleges and universities ranked. Only nine other schools registered a pass rate of 95 percent or better.

Muhlenberg College is one of only 11 colleges and universities statewide to rank in the top quartile of the overall results as well as the following three areas: basic skills, academic content, and professional knowledge. One hundred percent of the Muhlenberg students who took the basic skills and professional knowledge exams passed, while 94 percent passed the academic content areas (math, English, biology, etc.) exam. These success rates rank Muhlenberg in the top quartile of Pennsylvania schools offering a teacher preparation program.

For the 1999-2000 academic year, a total of 57 students from Muhlenberg took one or more of the tests across all categories used by the state for licensure.

Muhlenberg College is a highly selective liberal arts college in Allentown, Pa. The College provides programs leading to certification for teaching in secondary and elementary schools. In both cases, the student is required to complete a subject major in addition to the requirements of the certification program. Both certification programs include a range of field experiences and student teaching, which enhance the candidate's understanding of the relationship of pedagogy to the classroom.
