Former National Baseball League umpire Dave Pallone will speak at Muhlenberg College on Wednesday, October 24, 7:30 p.m., Miller Forum, Moyer Hall. Pallone's presentation, "Who's Really on First," is sponsored by Muhlenberg's Gay Straight Alliance. It is free and open to the public.

Pallone worked for 18 years as a professional umpire before being outted and released from his position. In 1995 he appeared with Martina Navratilova for a candid conversation at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst; it was the first time that two prominent, openly gay people in professional sports spoke publicly about their experiences. Pallone has since been a frequent guest on Larry King Live and is the author of the 1990 New York Times best-selling autobiography Behind the Mask: My Double Life in Baseball. He was featured in ESPN's December 1998 documentary Homophobia in Sports.
