Scott Russell Sanders, a celebrated nonfiction writer, will give a public reading at Muhlenberg College, Monday, November 5, 7 p.m., in the Recital Hall in Muhlenberg's Baker Center for the Arts. It is free and open to the public.
Sanders has published 18 books, including novels, collections of stories and essays, personal narratives, and storybooks for children. His most recent essay collection, The Force of Spirit, meditates on the sacred in everyday life. His collection Writing from the Center, a personal account of the quest for meaning and moral life, won the Great Lakes Book Award. Sanders has been the recipient of a Guggenheim award and a National Endowment for the Arts grant and, in 1995, was honored with a Lannan Literary Award for his collected work in nonfiction.
His work has been selected for The Best American Essays, the Kenyon Review Award for Literary Excellence, the PEN Syndicated Fiction Award, and the John Burroughs Essay Award. Sanders is Distinguished Professor of English at Indiana University, where he has taught since 1971.
This public reading is sponsored by Writers at Muhlenberg as part of Living Writers, a semester-long series of public readings. Novelist/short story writer Ha Jin, who won the National Book Award for his novel Waiting, will give the final reading of the series Monday, November 26, 7 p.m., in the Recital Hall.
