Program Overview

Enthusiastic, Hardworking, Devoted? Do you love people and sports? If you can answer yes to these questions you might be just the right person to become part of one of the best experiences on the campus of Muhlenberg College. The Muhlenberg College Athletic Training staff is hardworking, dedicated individuals who are responsible for providing sports medicine coverage for every varsity athletic program on campus.

The staff is led by Head Athletic Trainer Steve Nemes, Associate Athletic Trainers Lindsay Porembo and Assistant Athletic Trainers Sean Morse and Jamie Scalise. The core of our staff is our student First Aiders.

The student first aiders are truly the right arm of the athletic training staff. These are work-study positions where the student first aider is responsible for assisting in the daily activities of team coverage. These responsibilities include but are not limited to pre and post practice/game preparation, and under the supervision of certified athletic training staff members first aiders help with the coverage of home practices and games.

This is a very fulfilling experience. The hours are flexible, which provides the student the chance to explore many of the other excellent extracurricular opportunities found at Muhlenberg College. We not only strive for excellence in the athletic training room but most importantly in the classroom. Several of our student first aiders pursue careers in the allied health field. Over the years we have had several of our students become successful physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers and other allied healthcare professionals as well as careers in other fields. Two of our student first aiders have been nominated for the Sears Directors Cup Postgraduate Scholarship for NCAA Division III schools. In 1998 one of our students won this prestigious award. This award goes to a non-athlete who is providing a service for the athletic program and has exemplified outstanding academics and service to their institution and community.
