Research, Scholarship or Creative/Artistic Interests

My interests include critical analysis of education policy including an examination of the current charter school movement, impact of standardized testing on student learning and teaching practices and the growing social movement in the corporate privatization of American education as well as equity and race issues in education. Future interests include church/state issues regarding school vouchers.

A variety of DANA students have been engaged over the years as research assistants with Carbone and Richwine to organize and code 10 semesters of data from interviews conducted with public school teachers on the effects of NCLB and standardized testing on classroom practice and professional autonomy. More recently we have worked with Danielle McWalters and Rachel Wolfeiler on the construction and data analysis of a state-wide public opinion poll on charter schools in PA.
