The Philosophy program at Muhlenberg will challenge your intellect while exposing you to new and diverse perspectives in the field. You’ll study classical philosophy alongside globally informed courses such as Africana Philosophy, Caribbean Philosophy and Philosophies of China. You’ll make connections to other disciplines and schools of thought including the arts, biomedical ethics, law, gender studies and morality.
You’ll be encouraged to link these studies to your passions via independent research or collaborative research with faculty. Students also apply and amplify their knowledge through experiential learning opportunities such as internships, study abroad and participation in student organizations.
Perhaps one of the greatest opportunities offered by the study of philosophy is the chance to engage questions that impact our lives every day. What is the best way to live a good life? What is justice? With so many competing opinions, how can we know which, if any, are true? What is the value of our actions for ourselves, for other people, for other species and for future generations?
Philosophy faculty and students will reflect on these questions together. Drawing insights from great thinkers across the globe, you will create new perspectives on and solutions to some of the world’s most pressing challenges.
