The Brown Lecture Series
Named after beloved English professor John D. M. Brown, the Brown Lecture Series brings thought-provoking scholars and writers to Muhlenberg each year.
Students interested in English Literatures can pursue a major or minor and enjoy unique opportunities to concentrate in Pre K-4, 4-8 and secondary education thanks to partnerships with Muhlenberg’s Education program.
No matter your area of focus, you’ll learn from expert faculty as well as renowned scholars and guest writers, who regularly visit campus to offer workshops and read from their work. Visiting authors have included Neil Gaiman, Ada Limón, Marina Carr, Moshin Hamid (pictured to the right) and Zadie Smith.
Opportunities abound to apply your learning in hands-on settings. Write or edit for a student publication such as Muses, the College's student-run art and literary magazine or The Muhlenberg Academic Review, a student-run peer-reviewed academic journal. You can also serve as a tutor or writing assistant in the Writing Center, assist faculty in Allentown’s public schools, or help facilitate creative writing workshops for incarcerated people. Expand your perspective by studying abroad for a semester, or take a short-term writing course in Italy, Ireland or the United States.
