SMOOTH MUSCLE:
This smooth muscle sample was taken from the ileum of the small intestine. Notice that the inner circular muscle (IM) has the characteristic “smooth” look to it because it is a longitudinal section of the muscle. The outer longitudinal muscle (OM) shows smooth muscle bundles in cross section.
