Activities at the Newman Center
The Students In Newman (S.I.N.) seek to enrich all members of the Muhlenberg
community by sponsoring social, devotional, educational and service events, grounded
in faith in God and handed on in the Roman Catholic tradition. This organization
also strives to unite the Muhlenberg community, regardless of religious affiliation,
through a loving and inclusive way. We sponsor a number of activities throughout the
year. E-mail Father Krivak and he will add you to
a mail list and keep you up-to-date with all activities.
Fellowship Dinners Every Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
We meet each Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. for discussion and prayer follwed by a Fellowship Dinner in the Newman Center.
This is a wonderful way to join in prayer, thoughtful discussion of current topics, meet others,
and get a great meal away from the dining hall!
Roman Catholic Discussion Group
Each Tuesday at the Newman Center during Common Hour (12:30 pm), Fr. Krivak holds a Discussion Group on a
variety of topics to engage the students in dialogue from a Roman Catholic perspective.
Overnight Retreats
The Roman Catholic Campus Ministry sponors retreats during Advent and Lent so that students can
withdraw from the hectic life of campus and spend some time in prayer, reflection, and unity with Our Lord.
Our retreats can take place at the Newman Center or a number of locations in the Lehigh Valley,
including Mary Immaculate Center.
A retreat is a withdrawal from ordinary activities for a period of time to
be with God in prayer and reflection. Jesus spent forty days in the desert
in prayer and fasting before entering his public ministry. In the early Christian era,
the desert, mountains and other remote areas provided places for prayer. Later, people
sought solitude in monasteries and convents. In the late 16th century, retreat houses
were established and continue to operate today. The liturgical season of Lent
is regarded as a forty day retreat for the whole church.
Holiday Parties
Throughout the academic year we gather together during holidays like Halloween and Christmas.
Our Christmas party is a great way to gather with fellow students before going on the long
Winter break.
