“In a cave many miles to the south, lived a boy born with fangs in his mouth,” begins the first musical number in Bat Boy: the Musical, the Muhlenberg Theatre production which runs October 23 through November 1 in the Baker Theatre, just in time for Halloween.
When a strange half-bat, half-boy is discovered in a cave by some mischievous spelunkers, the townsfolk lock him up in a cage hoping the town veterinarian will dispose of it.
The townsfolk are astonished when the Parkers accept the ‘atrocity’ into their family.  They instruct Bat Boy how to talk, dress, and act normally, and soon he longs to be accepted as member of society. At first he seems to get his wish but then a series of mysterious murders, dead cows, and a lot of blood leave him suspect and turns the town against him.
A story of love, acceptance, and revenge, Bat Boy: The Musical undertakes the difficult questions of acceptance, bias, and equality and mixes them with humor, horror, and musical numbers, leading up to a shocking twist ending that will keep the audience on the edge of their seats.
Jeramie Mayes, who plays Edgar/Bat Boy explains that: “Bat Boy is an outsider to the extreme, but he is still partly human.  So I have been drawing a lot from my own personal experiences as a minority. I relate to Edgar, especially when he sees the amount of hatred people can have for something they don't understand.”
It promises to be a brilliant show, combining serious issues with comedy, horror, and entertainment. Having a cult-like following, Bat Boy: The Musical is regarded and one of the funniest and most creative modern day musicals.
“It is going to be a riot that hopefully makes you want to cry, laugh, and then think a little,” said Jeramie.
