A graduate's sweet story of success!
The human resources of any enterprise have a significant impact on the organization’s ability to translate strategic plans into reality. The H.R. professional who can supply the right people at the right time, doing the right things to achieve corporate goals, will always be in high demand.
Joané Hockenbury, Just Born, Inc. completed the Wescoe School’s Human Resources program. She recognizes first-hand the quality of the instruction that puts Wescoe students on the cutting edge of the H.R. industry.
“The bachelor’s degree in H.R. that I received from Muhlenberg College has proven to be invaluable in my career,” says Joané, Director of Talent Management. “The experiential, team learning environment provided the knowledge and skills necessary for my future success. With the expertise I gained at Wescoe, coupled with the opportunities provided by my employer, Just Born, Inc., I was able to advance in Human Resources.”
The Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College has been offering classes in human resources for over a decade. The curriculum and format have changed but the commitment to quality remains consistent. Presently in an accelerated format, the bachelor’s of Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources Leadership incorporates the latest practices in the workplace.
For business majors, the Human Resources Leadership concentration provides skills in this growing field. H.R. professionals gain the tools to enable them to move from the traditional transactional function to a more transformational role in the enterprise of the future. Gone are the days when the H.R. professional’s main responsibility was hiring and firing personnel. The new H.R. professional has to evolve from the previous role of completing administrative tasks to being creative and strategic.
Wescoe H.R. students complete a broad curriculum in such areas as leadership and team development, statistical decision making, financial analysis, strategic planning and tactical execution and organizational analysis. The goal of the program is to create a well-rounded professional ready to be a core member of an upper management team.
Students gain a thorough working knowledge of both business principles and organization supporting H.R. strategies. They learn how to identify ongoing business needs and attract, develop and retain a work force qualified to meet those needs.
Working in teams, students complete projects and make presentations both inside and outside of the classroom. The class format is highly interactive. Students are expected to support their opinions and reflect on their learning. There is a diversified mix of lecture, hands-on application of theory, class discussion and professional presentations, all coalescing to create a dynamic educational journey.
