Elementary (Grades K-6) - up until August 2013
Elementary certification has been a cornerstone of the education program throughout Pennsylvania and has served the public schools well over many generations. However, as of August 2013 this certification will no longer be available in Pennsylvania. Rather, the new levels of certification will be Prekindergarten to grade 4 and grades 4-8. For those who are able to complete certification prior to the phase-out, the guidelines through The Wescoe School of Muhlenberg College include the following:
- A bachelor’s degree in any major offered at Muhlenberg
- Required Cognate Courses
- 6 credit hours of mathematics
- Writing Composition
- British or American Literature
- Biology
- Physical Science
- Foundations of the Creative Arts
- World Geography
- Foundations of Exercise Science & Wellness
- Education Courses:
- History and Politics of American Education
- Educational Psychology
- Introduction to Special Education
- Curriculum and Instruction
- Early Literacy
- Middle Grades Literacy & Social Studies
- The Mathematics Curriculum
- Elementary Science Curriculum
- Professional Semester:
- Assessment and Evaluation
- Studies in Professional Education
- Student Teaching I
- Student Teaching II

Associates
For some students, this is a great way to earn a needed degree while they work toward a bachelor's degree. For others, an associate's degree provides the focused, two-year experience necessary to succeed. No matter what your plans, our academic advisors are always there to help you chart your course of study.
The Associate of Arts Degree requires the completion of 12 courses as General Academic Requirements and 5 courses in a concentration: Business Administration, Accounting, Computer Science, or Psychology.
