A Complete Education

At Muhlenberg Theatre & Dance, you'll receive intensive studio training and incredible performance and design opportunities. But you will also get a first-rate liberal arts education, from one of the best small liberal arts colleges in the country. At Muhlenberg, we think breadth of knowledge and experience and excellent studio training are equally important.

If you are planning a dual major, or you want to explore other careers in addition to the performing arts, then the choice becomes even clearer. Here you'll have the freedom of academic exploration — and the opportunity to pursue all your goals.

World-Class Teachers

Your professors and instructors are accomplished, respected artists in their fields — designers, directors, choreographers, dancers, and actors who pursue active, vibrant careers. See for yourself! In addition, each year we bring in acclaimed guest artists to teach, direct, choreograph, design, and perform.

These artists will be your teachers, your mentors, your collaborators, and your colleagues, working one-on-one with you in the classroom, in the studio, and on the stage. And when you contact us to schedule a visit, the people you talk to will be the directors and founders of the Department. How's that for access?

First-Rate Facilities

You'll use state-of-the-art performance facilities, including two large theatres and two blackbox-style studio theatres, all equipped with modern lighting and sound, as well as expansive dance and acting studio space for classes, rehearsals, and student projects.

Amazing Opportunities to Perform & Create

The Department presents a Mainstage Season of six theatre productions and three dance concerts, from October through May, ranging in style from experimental studio productions to major Broadway musicals. More than 100 students are cast each season in Mainstage shows and dance concerts, which also offer numerous opportunities for directing, choreography, stage management, and design students.

In addition, the student-run Muhlenberg Theatre Association and Muhlenberg Dance Association produce an annual series of informal dance concerts and studio productions that give students opportunities to direct, choreograph, design, and perform, and several touring theatre and dance ensembles take the show on the road to area schools community centers.

Summer Music Theatre employs between 50 and 100 students each summer, as actors, stage managers, carpenters, stitchers, and administrative staff, giving participants hands-on professional summer stock experience. Many students also participate in the College Choir, a cappella groups, dance ensembles, and instrumental groups across campus.

International Study

The Department offers incredible opportunities for Theatre & Dance students to study abroad. More than half of our students spend a semester in one of several excellent programs specifically designed to complement the curriculum.

Many students head to the Accademia dell'Arte, in Arezzo, Italy, which offers intense conservatory training in both theatre and dance, with highly respected teachers. (And no, you don't need to know any Italian!)

Others head to programs at Goldsmiths College and Queen Mary College, University of London, to study alongside students from across England and around the world, and to immerse themselves in London's rich cultural life.

A Track Record of Success

Our graduates are prepared for study at the graduate level, pursue lives as professional artists, and contribute creative leadership in many other careers. Muhlenberg alumni are working as actors, directors, designers, choreographers, dancers, stage managers and technicians, educators, and arts administrators on Broadway, in film and television, and in major regional and educational theatres across the nation.
