or: The Seven Men
I Came Out to in India
written & performed by Matt Dicken '14
directed by Arthur Strimling
March 19-23, 2014
"Matthew needed to tell him that Matthew was gay because—in America—staying silent would be suspect."
An out-since-13 American man, Matt navigates the cultural dangers of staging his recent travels in India as stories for an audience in the USA. Evoking intimate landscapes rich with political and sensual variety, his performance sizzles in the sticky space between sexualities.
What does it mean to find love in a yet-to-be-legalized body? Matt seeks answers by messily colliding pop cultures, mythic figures, and autobiography. He shares his process of transnational queer dreaming—and dares us to question the ease with which we impose our values and constructions across globalized borders.
For mature audiences.
