Notes from the Director:
Spring Performance of Dancing with Shel

Dear Friends,

Our 2014 Spring Performance is Dancing with Shel! This year’s dances will be inspired by the writings and illustrations of Shel Silverstein. Our performance will be in three acts, each with a separate theme: In the Sea, On the Ground, and In the Air. Then the entire company will come together for a finale based on The Giving Tree. We are also excited that our student teachers will be choreographing, assisting, and participating in the performance with our MCDC students.

ALL MCDC dancers are encouraged to participate in this show and to notify their teacher immediately if they are not planning on performing. There are two mandatory rehearsals leading up to the performances, on May 7 and 8 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Beginning students and Creative Movement students will be dismissed at 6:30 both evenings. More specific information will follow via hand outs and in the newsletter. There will be two performances, May 9 and 10, in Muhlenberg’s Baker Theatre. The Friday performance is at 7 p.m.; dancers are to report at 6 p.m. Saturday’s performance is at 1 p.m.; dancers report at noon.

PARENTS & FRIENDS: We need your help! To prepare for the upcoming shows, we will need parent volunteers. We are in need of six parent chaperones per rehearsal and performance to assist our teachers in the studios with our young dancers. We will also need four ushers per performance to assist with ticket collection and handing out programs. More detailed information about each role will follow in a handout after Spring Break. But if you are interested in any of these roles, please email me at

Also, please help spread the word! Please download the Dancing with Shel poster and print out as many as you would like. You can hand them out to friends and relatives, or hang them up in schools and businesses you frequent.

We're excited about this project, and we hope that you are too! Thank you in advance for all your help!
