Media & Communication Department

Welcome to the Alumni Network!logo

The Media & Communication Alumni Network is a new initiative designed to be mutually beneficial to alumni and current students. Some of the ventures that a planning group of alumni, current students and faculty proposed are the creation of a Job Board for students and alumni, facilitating Internships and short-term Shadowing Opportunities, Career Coaching, Workplace Tours, Alumni Panels, Workshops, and Class Visits, Career of the Month Profiles of Alumni, Alumni Week, Networking through Social Media, Directories of Alumni with special areas of interest, and Regional Get-Togethers.

The strong liberal arts orientation of our department serves as the starting point for diverse careers. The Alumni Network is committed to representing the richness of that diversity. In addition to television and radio producers, journalists, publishing, advertising and public relations practitioners, our alumni include lawyers, librarians, educators, researchers, writers, technology specialists, artists, social workers, public health workers, bankers, corporate executives, homemakers, translators, government workers, retirees, and more.

We want all voices to be heard.

Alumni Week, March 28-April 1, 2011

Media and Communication hosted a weeklong gathering of alumni, current students and faculty to foster community and connection.  Throughout the week, over 20 alumni returned to campus to visit classes, lead workshops, speak on panels, offer informal career coaching and guidance, and to promote internship opportunities in their organizations. The event, first proposed by Justin Buchbinder in an Alumni Network planning retreat in Summer 2010, and realized through Dr. Jansen's concerted efforts and planning, brought back to campus alumni from diverse years who have taken a variety of career paths.  This poster, designed by Alex Mulhearn, '11, captures just some of the fields represented.
