At the May 2011 graduation ceremonies, Dr. Amy Hark, Associate Professor of Biology, was awarded the Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching in recognition of her contributions to the intellectual growth of students.
Dr. Daniel Klem, Acopian Professor of Ornithology and Conservation Biology, was awarded the 2010 Rosalie Edge Conservation Award by the Delaware Valley Ornithological Club for significant contributions to conservation of the environment. Founded in 1890, the DVOC is the sixth oldest bird club worldwide. It is based at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Philadelphia.
The Fall 2010 Center for Ethics program, entitled "Science and Sensibility: Studying Nature as a Human Endeavor," is being directed by Dr. Bruce Wightman, Professor of Biology.
Dr. Marten Edwards was awarded a Senior Fellowship from the National Institutes of Health to investigate Juvenile Hormone Synthesis in mosquitoes at a NIH-supported lab at Florida International University, Miami, FL. Dr. Edwards presented the results of this research at an international meeting in the Czech Republic, Summer '10.
The Acopian Center for Ornithology (ACO) has recently received an anonymous gift of $50,000 to establish an endowment providing financial support for the Acopian Center at Muhlenberg College. Interest generated by the endowment will assist in the purchase of archival supplies and will support expenses and activities related to the administration of archives, manuscripts and the collection.
