Becoming a Peer Tutor

Thank you for your interest in the Peer Tutoring Program. The requirements for becoming a peer tutor are listed below, as well as links to forms that must be completed in order to be considered for a tutoring position.

Tutors are chosen through a selective process based on qualifications, recommendations, and an interview with the Tutorial Coordinator. Selected tutors will be expected to attend training sessions as required. Training for new tutors is conducted at the beginning of each semester, generally 2-3 weeks into the semester. In order to begin tutoring, students are required to attend a 5-hour mandatory training session.

In order to complete the application process, please do the following:

  • Give the Recommendation for Student Tutor form to the instructor or department head for the course(s) in which you would like to tutor. This form should be completed by the instructor or department head and returned directly to the Academic Resource Center.
  • The Application to Become a Tutor form is to be completed by you. The instructor or department head must approve your application. After receiving their signatures, return the completed application to the Academic Resource Center.
  • The list of tutor requirements and skills should be read and the policies of the program clearly understood.
